They say superheros are for kids and
They say I’m too old …
They say I’m too old to believe in them
But when they say that I tell them
Chile you just don’t know
I still believe in superheroes and I’m 35 years old
Because for 35 years I’ve known
A man with a cape and a man with a face that kinda looks like mine
Chile, you just don’t know
He was playing princesses with me when I was 4 and
He had magic remedies for scraped up knees teaching me how to ride a bike when I was 5 and
He taught me how to cross the street and
how to get back on my feet literally with casts and crutches when I was 9
I still believe in superheroes and today I’m 35
Chile you just don’t know
This superhero still holds my hand
Naw, see yall don’t really understand
On days when life doesn’t go as planned and when the rain pours and it storms more than I can stand
He stands right there with me
Right there with me in the rain
Hold on…y’all aint getting it yet…just let me explain
When I thought the ink dried up in my pen
This superhero inspired me to try again and to write again and
When I found myself in predicaments I never thought I’d be in
This superhero helped me to pray and pray and pray and pray without end and
When I got mixed up with boys that I thought were men
This superhero showed me time and time again
What to look for…what to look for in a real man
Chile you just don’t understand
My Daddy is my superhero
A man so strong, so valiant and so true
When the rubber meets the road, my Daddy is the glue
I love my Daddy and my daughter loves him too
So yes, I do believe in superheroes
And my daughter Psalm does too
Everyday in February 2026, The House of Psalm will post an original poem about love — self-love, romantic love, parental love and so much more. #28daysoflovepoems | IG @thehouseofpsalm @kiaraleewrites
