My name is Kiara and I am the founder of The House of Psalm (named after my daughter Psalm), which started as a communication consulting side business, but has since birthed The House of Psalm, a home for the creative mind (online and print magazine). I’m a writer, consultant, writing professor and lover of all things creative. My work includes my very first blog, the now-defunct theBlackertheBerry, two children’s books: Light-Skinned, Dark-Skinned or In Between? (about colorism) and Be A Man Tyrone: What Happens When Daddy Goes to Prison? (about parental incarceration). I was producer and host of my very own show, The Kiara Lee Show, that aired on public access television in Richmond, VA (you can watch episodes on YouTube). I also have a poetry book, “She Forgot Who She Was: Poetry for Women Lost and Found,” and a workbook titled “Unveiling Your Writing Voice: A Workbook for Writers and Creatives.” I have written many op-eds and online pieces in my creative journey as well. In 2020, I won a Green Eye Shade Award for my work in Teaching Tolerance Magazine.
Whether you’re a writer, a painter, an actress, or if you don’t consider any fancy titles for yourself – you are a creative in my eyes. No matter who you are, to some degree, we all create and we all need space to take care of every part of ourselves. I hope this space inspires you to take good care.
