In the Bible, the book of Psalms is full of poems about the goodness of God. It’s like a figurative temple for those looking for the beauty or the art of the word — God’s promises to His people and testimonies of these promises in poetry-form. This is why I named my daughter Psalm; she is hope, faith, beauty, art and more personified. And her birth is what birthed The House of Psalm.
Faith and the art of writing and communication is what has gotten me through some of my hardest times. Embracing my story and the stories of others is what has empowered me and transformed tragedies to triumphs, full stops to works in progress, and setbacks to comebacks. As a writer, writing professor and consultant, I know the power and the art of writing and communication and I want people everywhere to know it!
We All Have a Story
Over the years, I’ve learned that each and every single one of us has a story somewhere inside of us, whether it’s a book, a blog, a think piece or something else. These stories are valuable to the world around us; they educate, inspire, provide therapy and more in a world riddled with mental health crises, widening opportunity gaps, global conflict and more. The problem is putting pen to paper and sharing our stories amidst the barriers that can hinder us from authoring the work that could save a life, provide a solution to a societal ill, inform policy change, help someone with their identity work or simply comfort a wearied soul.
How The House of Psalm Can Help
In short, The House of Psalm offers writing services for all people of all walks of life and in all stages of the writing process, from having no clue where to start to needing one last round of editing before submitting to publication. I’ve also helped public figures with speechwriting, novelists with writing deadlines, new writers and more. The House of Psalm offers editing services, writing coaching, communication consulting and more. Through the magazine and consulting work, the plan is to build a community for creatives to learn, to work and to authentically exist.
