Life and love
Those two weren’t always kind but
Somehow you made it out alive
And with the biggest heart
You were God’s miracle baby
They say all heroes have a tumultuous birth
A rough start
And you are no different
You were abandoned, left
But maybe you were set apart
God has some off and some strange ways
Not always meant for us to understand
Then God blessed you with my grandmother, the best mother who
Passed down her genes and her loving and her mothering
To you in a way biology could never explain
Or account for
As you grew older and went on your way
You encountered evil people and their evil ways
It still hurts to this day to hear what you endured yesterday
As a Black girl growing up back in the day
The one who did you wrong had no apology, nothing to say when you were young then
In old age called you up afraid out the blue to apologize
But what they did and what they do made a part of you blue your whole life
But that person didn’t realize that it was far too late to say sorry
Karma already caught up
When they rotted away in that house down in Georgia without a mention or a fuss for weeks until
The neighbors choked on the smell of the dust
That’s what happens when people mistreat kids
Trust: it comes back to them in how they die and
It comes back to them in how they live
Despite it all you still have love
Life and love
Those two weren’t always kind but
Somehow you made it out alive
And with the biggest heart
The greatest mother I’ve ever known
For me, my sisters and our seeds, your love is our forever home
Living life full of purpose, turning the stones thrown into gold
Momma, I still wanna be like you when I grow up, and I’m already grown
Spoiler Alert: the underdog lives, loves and makes lemonade out of all those lemons
Oh Ma, how sweet it is to know that God set you apart since the very beginning
Like a shooting star in the night’s sky that keeps going
That keeps glowing farther and farther
You light up the sky
You light up love
You light up life
Keep going,
Love, Your Youngest Daughter
