Something Blue, Something Borrowed

#28daysoflovepoems by Kiara Lee

Here at the altar I stand

I shake as I stand while I hold your big, sweaty hands

We are so nervous

and we are so giddy

Just two people high on love

We laugh and we smile but

I am still a little blue because

I wish I would have met you 10, 15 years ago

Before the wasted time and

Before naively saying yes to God’s no’s

We could have been standing up here at this very altar

We could have been years ago

Then I borrow a page out of wisdom’s book

I had seasons, you had seasons

And God himself has His many reasons for

Why things happen the way that they do

I learned a lot about me and

You learned a lot about you

Well before it ended up being us two

There were things we had to do

There were things we had to go through

Chapters and

Assignments

Hard lessons and

Misalignments

We had required reading to do

But look at us now: you’re ready for me and

Here I am

Ready for you

Look at us now

About to enjoy the fruits of our labor

So sweet and succulent and ripe

We can savor the taste for the rest of our lives

If we play our cards right

Mmmm …I think love is worth life’s sacrifice

Here I am with old lessons and

New blessings

A heart that was blue and

Wisdom that I borrowed

I’m ready to say I do to

A forever of tomorrows

Everyday in February 2026, The House of Psalm will post an original poem about love — self-love, romantic love, parental love and so much more. #28daysoflovepoems | IG @thehouseofpsalm @kiaraleewrites
