Only the Stars
The type of dark night envies
The type of dark history tried its hardest to delete and demean
It tastes better than chocolate
The type of dark that intimidates many men now and then
The type of dark that infuriated yesterday’s Jim Crow and evoked Black codes that built today’s death row
Breathtakingly revolutionary
I know what you been told
“Don’t stay outside too long,”
“Don’t even come back out till the sun is gone”
God only knows
I know what you been told
But God told me and I understand
That He gonna bless me with the darkest man to have and to hold
Holy matrimony
It’s Black and it’s bold
God bless that man
And his sweet dark chocolate soul
Skin like butter
Good to his mother
Good to his brother
And a lover like no other
While the night envies his dark skin
Only the stars see the light in him
Everyday in February 2026, The House of Psalm will post an original poem about love — self-love, romantic love, parental love and so much more. #28daysoflovepoems | IG @thehouseofpsalm @kiaraleewrites
